Make sure you can vote!

Published3rd February 2016

This Friday (5th February) is National Voter Registration Day and a call is being made to residents in Ipswich to make sure they are on the Electoral Register.

The Borough Council carried out a comprehensive campaign last year with its Annual Canvass, where forms were sent to every house in Ipswich.  There are still a large number of ‘Invitations to Register’ forms unreturned which must be completed to ensure you are on the register.

Everybody in the UK must register. You need to appear on the Electoral Register to be able to vote in local and national elections and referendums. Some people also register because they want to apply for credit because credit reference agencies use the register to confirm where somebody lives.

Publication of the revised electoral register took place in December but it’s not too late to register for this year.

You can register online at  www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or by contacting Ipswich Borough Council on 01473 432533.
