Making Food Waste History

You are here

The Suffolk Waste Partnership (SWP) has launched a campaign to encourage people to reduce the amount of food they throw away.

FACT - The average family throws away £700 worth of food each year that could have been eaten or composted.

FACT - Food waste costs the Suffolk taxpayer £4 million a year.

FACT - 20% of all the food we buy gets thrown away (50% of this hasn't even been touched and remains whole or unopened).

You can reduce the amount of food you throw away by following these simple steps:

  • Plan ahead;
  • Store correctly;
  • Only cook what you need; and
  • Recycle what you can’t eat!

Some food waste is unavoidable such as fruit and veg peelings, but these can be composted at home using a compost bin - www.getcomposting.com.
