Mayor visits major employer

Published11th October 2018

The Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Jane Riley, stepped behind the scenes at one of the town’s biggest employers, UK Power Networks’ office in Fore Hamlet, to see the customer call centre and hear about the latest industry innovations.

The Mayor was accompanied on the fact-finding trip a number of councillors who toured the power distribution company’s site which employs 621 staff.

They heard about changes in the energy industry, the uptake of electric vehicles, battery storage and the free Priority Services Register, which offers help to people in vulnerable circumstances.

The Mayor said: “It was good to see behind the scenes at the everyday services you take for granted. This Ipswich site is an important centre and a big local employer. It was interesting to see it from the customer’s point of view and how faults are dealt with.”
