More Ipswich households able to apply for Discretionary Energy Rebate

Published14th July 2022

A new Discretionary Energy Rebate scheme opens today for households that were not previously eligible. The new scheme applies to certain households within Council Tax bands E-H and to those living in Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMOs). Ipswich Borough Council has £274,350 of government funding to allocate within this scheme.

Households meeting the criteria for a Discretionary Energy Rebate will receive payments of up to £150 depending on their circumstances. Residents are urged to check the eligibility and application guidance at https://www.ipswich.gov.uk/DiscretionaryEnergyPayment as soon as possible as funding is limited.

Councillor Bryony Rudkin, Deputy Leader of Ipswich Borough Council, says:

“I am pleased that we are now able to launch our Discretionary Energy Rebate scheme.

“The past few months have not been easy for many families and I hope that this funding will provide a boost to those in need.

“I would also urge residents to be wary of potential scams and not give out personal information (particularly their bank details) in response to text messages, emails, phone calls or social media posts claiming to be about this payment – the only way to apply is via the secure route set out on our website.”
