New activity sessions on offer

Published31st January 2017

Some new activity sessions have started up in Ipswich for anyone over 45 years old who is not currently taking part in regular sport or physical activity.

ActivLives run this exciting programme in partnership with Ipswich Borough Council and it is funded by Sport England through the National Lottery.

The ActivIpswich programme is all about helping to get more of us active by taking part in accessible, inclusive sports that are easy to get involved with and great fun to play.

New sessions include:

  • Ping Pong and Short Tennis at Gainsborough Sports Centre every Wednesday morning 10.30am to noon.
  • Multi-Sport at The Meeting Place, Limerick Close, Whitehouse every Thursday afternoon 1.45pm to 3.15pm. A variety of activities are on offer including New Age Kurling, Boccia, New Age Bowls and Ping Pong.
  • New Age Kurling and Boccia at The Priory Centre (Salvation Army), Queens Way every Friday afternoon 1.30pm to 3pm

All of these sessions are informal and social. “We provide everything you need; all you have to do is turn up and enjoy the activity, meet new people and have lots of laughs,” explained Sophie Barber, from ActivLives. “Our participants are so friendly and welcoming to newcomers. It can be daunting going somewhere new or trying something for the first time, but we look after you well and make sure you are made to feel very welcome."

The great thing about the ActivIpswich programme is that you don’t need to worry about your ability, fitness level, being ‘sporty’ or having any equipment. It’s all about getting involved and enjoying the social benefits of being active.

All of the above sessions cost £2.50 - £3 although the first taster session is free and all sessions include a cuppa to help keep your energy levels up.

So if you are over the age of 45 (remember there is no upper age limit), and you would like to get involved then why not contact Sophie or Mike at ActivIpswich on 01473 345350 or email sophie@activlives.org.uk
