A new artist in residence is about to start work at the Ipswich Art Gallery after beating more than 50 other applicants to this sought after post.
Jonathan D Boast will move into High Street this month to help inspire local schools, colleges and community groups to engage with the Eduardo Paolozzi: General Dynamic F.U.N. exhibition.
Suffolk-born Jonathan has extensive experience in public art projects and will also develop his own work in the gallery’s learning studio, where visitors will be able to see him in action and talk to him about his practice.
In addition, a programme of workshop events and activities for children and adults will accompany the exhibition, which runs from 21st January until 2nd April.
The artist residency is part of Happening on High Street, supported by funding from Arts Council England.

Sir Eduardo Paolozzi (1924–2005) was one of the pioneers of the pop art movement in the UK. Born in Scotland, Paolozzi was a compulsive collector and a jumbler of icons. He is equally revered for his mechanistic sculptures and his kaleidoscopic print projects. Paolozzi had close links with Ipswich when he started working with CW Juby Ltd, Alpha Works, Whitehouse Road, who produced a number of his sculptures from 1962-71. He was also a guest lecturer at the Ipswich Art School and opened the present Art School in 1987.
