New GP Surgery for north-west Ipswich takes steps forward

Published1st March 2023

Plans for a new GP Practice serving the north-west of Ipswich are moving forward, as Ipswich Borough Council looks for Executive approval to tender for a Lead Consultant to manage construction.

The new building - on the former Tooks Bakery site at the junction of Bury Road and Old Norwich Road - will have 29 clinic rooms, 11 nurse rooms and a minor operating suite making it one of the largest GP Surgeries in Ipswich.

Ipswich Borough Council, who owns the land, is working with NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Cardinal Medical Practice (CMP) to deliver further access to healthcare in the area to support anticipated population growth in north Ipswich.

Councillor Martin Cook, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Major Capital Schemes, says:

“This is such an important development for the people of north-west Ipswich, enabling Cardinal Medical Practice to deliver a wide range of services under one modern roof.

Ipswich Borough Council and local NHS partners have worked very hard to drive this project, and we look forward to receiving tenders from contractors, as well as a lead design consultant, interested in seeing the building take shape ahead of building works in 2024.”
