Cllr Phil Smart, Ipswich Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Environment & Climate Change, said: “This has all been inspired by campaigns from other councils across the country who named their gritters – our electric vehicles are part of our commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2030 so we thought they deserved to be named too.

“We asked residents for suggestions and they didn’t disappoint – we’ve had a fantastic response and some really creative and funny names. I’m sure Dame Kelly Holmes will be honoured to know she’s now got an electric vehicle named after her!

“Thank you to everyone who got involved, we hope that once the vehicles are sporting their names people will spot them out and about and give our teams a smile and a wave.”
