Draft Local List (Buildings of Townscape Interest) Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) 2020- CLOSED

Background

Throughout Ipswich there are a large number of buildings and structures, which, whilst not on the statutory list maintained by Historic England, are of architectural and historic interest and make a significant contribution to the character and appearance of the town as a whole. Historic England identifies that when considering sites for local listing, the special interest of a building may arise from a range of criteria, such as age, rarity, aesthetic interest, group value, archaeological interest, archival interest, historic association, designed landscape interest, landmark status, social and communal value.

The Local List (Buildings of Townscape Interest) SPD was first adopted in 2013, with amendments added in 2016. Since adoption of the 2013 Local List (Buildings of Townscape Interest) SPD, the list has been reviewed every 3 years, considering the appropriateness of existing entries, removing entries where sites have been upgraded to receive statutory protection, and adding further buildings and structures worthy of inclusion.

The Council is now conducting an 8 week public consultation to seek comments on the proposed additions, amendments and removals from the Local List (Buildings of Townscape Interest) SPD, between 06 October 2020 until 08 December 2020.
