Planning and Development Committee

You are here

The Planning and Development Committee meets regularly to consider planning applications and decisions.

The list of applications to be considered by the Committee is agreed two weeks before the meeting date. Written reports on each item are prepared in order that the agenda can be distributed a week before the meeting date.

Once a report is prepared and submitted to the Committee, it is expected that it will be dealt with. Requests for deferrals will only be accepted in exceptional circumstances.

Decisions may sometimes be deferred at the meeting in order to allow a Committee site visit to take place. The conduct of such visits is regulated by an agreed protocol.

Public speaking at Planning and Development Committee

The Council allows public speaking from ward councillors and third parties. See Having your say on planning applications for guidelines and limitations.

Written representations

Written representations will normally be copied to all members of the Committee. Any representations received after the main papers are collated and before noon the Friday before Committee, will be copied as part of a bundle of 'late representations'. These are distributed to Members on the Friday evening before the Committee. Any representations received after this deadline will be dealt with at the planning officer's discretion.

Applicants and members of the public are encouraged to submit all representations through the Head of Planning and Development and not to send material directly to Councillors. The motivation of bypassing the normal channels can easily be misconstrued.

Decisions

We aim to issue Decision Notices within two working days of the Planning and Development Committee meeting.
