Published1st March 2022

Plans are being revealed today for a new 26 home development on Hawke Road for Ipswich Borough Council. The new homes are set to be developed on the former Diesco site which the Council purchased in 2020 and the adjacent play and recreation area. The plans include 20 houses of two, three and four bedrooms with gardens, solar panels and dedicated parking as well as 6 one-bedroom flats with communal gardens, solar panels and dedicated parking. At the heart of the proposed development is a vibrant new play and recreation area which will offer zones for toddlers, juniors, balls, active climbing and active sport as well as seating, landscaping and pathways.

The scheme has been developed by the Council’s housebuilding company, Handford Homes, and architects, Barefoot & Gilles. More details about the proposals are available at www.handfordhomes.co.uk/hawke

The architects and the Council Parks team will be there to talk about the scheme at All Hallows Church Hall, 320 Landseer Road, Ipswich IP3 0EN on

  • Wednesday 2 March 4-8pm
  • Thursday 3 March 1-5pm

The release of these plans for Hawke Road follows the sharing of plans for a development of 30 flats on Fore Hamlet in January. Work is also expected to start onsite at both Bibb Way and Ravenswood UVW later this year and all these four developments – totalling 302 new homes - are expected to be completed in 2024.

Councillor Neil MacDonald, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Housing says,

“The plans for Hawke Road show our commitment to building high quality new homes for local people. A programme of this scale is a significant investment in new homes in the town and I look forward to being able to provide new homes for 302 households in 2024. In the meantime, the development of 16 flats in Grimwade Street will be completed in the next few months and the development of 6 flats at Emmanuel Close will be finished in the next few weeks.”
