Superheroes draw in crowds

Published4th February 2019

Dreams came true for hundreds of children when they got the chance to come face to face with their favourite superheroes at Ipswich’s Sailmakers Shopping Centre.

Excited youngsters had selfies with Batman, swung from the top of skyscrapers like Spiderman and sang along with princesses in the Hero Quest event organised by Ipswich Borough Council.

Sailmakers stepped in because the very cold weather forced a move from the Cornhill but the warm welcome from our superheroes proved a big hit with shoppers.

Centre manager Mike Sorhaindo said: "It has been a fantastic event and we have had a real buzz in the centre. It is great to see all the children and their families with smiles on their faces. We were delighted to step in and help at the last minute and it's great that the public have flocked here in their hundreds."

Craig Lannigan, Ipswich Borough Council event programmes manager, said: "Due to the really cold snap we really needed something indoors for the comfort of the public and performers. We are really grateful to Sailmakers. From the security staff right through to centre management, the support we've had has been fantastic.”
