Support agencies available on Ipswich Cornhill for World Homelessness Day 2022

Published7th October 2022

Twelve community support teams will come together on Ipswich Cornhill in the town centre on Monday 10 October, to mark World Homelessness Day - engaging with residents to raise awareness of the local support available.

Between 10.30am and 3pm, Ipswich Borough Council’s housing options and lettings teams will be joined by local housing charities Ipswich Housing Action Group and Anglia Care Trust, plus mental and physical health care advisors, the Salvation Army and other charitable support groups.

The Ipswich Outreach bus will also be there, with two rooms for use by any agency on the day to talk to clients privately about matters of concern.

Councillor Neil MacDonald, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Housing and the Cost of Living says:

“It’s important for Ipswich residents to understand that in the tough economic times we currently face, there is local support available to turn to for housing and health advice.

“The team at Ipswich Borough Council works incredibly hard to offer support to prevent homelessness. Outreach events like this allow us to engage with the community at the heart of our town, talking through any concerns face-to-face.

“It’s about raising awareness of the local support available; we have plans in place to help reduce homelessness and will do all we can to support residents in need of advice and guidance in the tough economic times we are now facing.”

Councillor Neil MacDonald and Ipswich Mayor Councillor John Cook both plan to attend this event to support colleagues on the day.

Anyone worried about having to leave their home are encouraged to contact Ipswich Borough Council’s Housing Options team, who can work with you to prevent this happening. Find out more on the Council's dedicated homelessness webpage.
