Universal Credit is here!

Published25th April 2018

Universal Credit was rolled out in Ipswich today but do you know what it is and what it will mean for you?

Universal Credit is a new, single payment for people in or out of work being introduced by the Government.

It is for working age people, including single parents, and replaces these benefits and tax credits:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Working Tax Credits
  • Child Tax Credits
  • Housing Benefit

Universal Credit is paid monthly by the Department for Work & Pensions and includes housing costs to pay your rent if you qualify. The payment will be paid directly into your bank, building society or credit union account.

If you are worried about the effect of changing over to Universal Credit or about managing your money you can get advice from Ipswich Housing Action Group (IHAG) by email at pbs@ihag.co.uk or call 07999 085 829.
