Ipswich schoolchildren laid crosses today at the graves of the town’s heroes and at the Cenotaph during moving Armistice ceremonies at the Fields of Honour in the Old Cemetery and in Christchurch Park.
Veterans, cadets and civic leaders also paid their respects ahead of the official Remembrance Sunday service Christchurch Park. The Mayor, Jane Riley, and Deputy Mayor, Sarah Barber also attended today.
Local people are expected to turn out in large numbers to witness the arrival of the Parade with Standards before the service in the park starts at 10.50am.
This year, to mark the centenary of the moment the guns fell silent on the Western Front, five “Tommy Silhouettes” were placed in the park and at the cemeteries as a poignant reminder of the tremendous sacrifice made by so many.
