Four weekends of fun! That’s the format of the new-look Ipswich Arts Festival this summer.
Ip-art 2014 has certainly got something for everyone, from Jessie J and The Vamps to a Big Top of cabaret and from the Indian Mela to McBusted.
There is also Ipswich Music Day, the UK’s biggest one-day free music festival, an open-air screening of The Great Gatsby, the madcap Pantaloons ‘ History of Britain, silent cinema and classical music treats.
And for the first time, Ip-art will kick off with a town centre celebration – a weekend of film, a summer market, a Suffolk Pride parade and Benjamin Bloom with his unique take on musical theatre.
Ip-art is organised by Ipswich Borough Council and its partners and runs from Friday 20th June to Sunday 13th July.
Gordon Mole, the Council’s Head of Cultural Services, said: “We have put together a festival for the family designed to attract people from Ipswich and all over the region. This year it is based around four special weekends but there is plenty for everyone in between. Clearly, with names like McBusted and Rizzle Kicks, we have stepped up a level but we have other favourites such as Global Rhythm and sensational classical pianist Noriko Ogawa. Ip-art has established itself as the biggest arts festival in the region and this year we are expecting to welcome up to 150,000 visitors. This is a festival for the people … come and be part of it.”
