A new café bar has officially opened its doors today on Ipswich Waterfront (Wednesday 2 July 2025).
Marinero Lounge on St Peter’s Wharf celebrated its opening today, with Ipswich residents invited to visit the new venue.
The building owned by Ipswich Borough Council, has been leased to Loungers, who will operate the new venue as part of their expanding café bar chain, offering food, drinks, and a relaxed atmosphere right by the water.
Opening within the former Burtons building, once a key part of the Port of Ipswich, the new venue marks an exciting new chapter for the historic site.
Councillor Neil MacDonald, Leader of Ipswich Borough Council, said:
“We are delighted to see this important waterfront building open to the public as a vibrant, new café and bar for both residents and visitors to enjoy.
“This redevelopment forms a key part of the regeneration of Ipswich Waterfront, and it reflects the Council’s strong commitment to breathing new life into vacant buildings and ensuring they serve a positive purpose in our community once again. By bringing spaces like this back into use, we’re helping to create a more dynamic, welcoming, and connected town that everyone can take pride in.”
John English, Head of Community at Loungers, said: “We’re delighted to have finally opened the doors to Marinero Lounge in this lovely spot on the Wharf. Our Lounges strive to put community at the heart of hospitality and our teams always go the extra mile to make a difference. They are actively encouraged to connect with their communities by working with local groups, charities, organisations, and businesses that are at the heart of the fabric of local life. We are very much looking forward to welcoming local residents to Marinero Lounge.”
