Ipswich Borough Council is set to discuss a new strategy that will improve the way planning rules are enforced across the town at its next Executive meeting on 8 July 2025.
A Local Planning Enforcement Plan which has been developed will make it easier for people living in Ipswich know how the Council deals with breaches of planning rules - like building without permission or not following approved plans.
If approved, the plan will explain how the Council investigates reported issues, the steps that can be taken when rules are broken, and how it will check that new developments meet planning conditions.
The aim is to make the process more open, consistent, and easier for everyone in Ipswich to understand.
Councillor Carole Jones, Ipswich Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning and Museums, said:
“By having a clear and proactive enforcement plan, which sets out the kind of issues that can be addressed and prioritised, residents can feel confident that the Council is working to protect their neighbourhoods and ensure that planning rules are followed; an approach that helps to keep Ipswich a safe and welcoming place to live.”
