There were heartfelt tributes and joyful celebrations in Ipswich for the 80th celebration of VE Day last week.

From the moments of reflection and remembrance in Christchurch Park during the morning to an evening of entertainment on the Cornhill, we’ve captured images from these events and shared them on YouTube - click on the links below:

Paying tribute to the VE Day generation as the Royal British Legion led civic leaders, armed forces veterans, and Ipswich residents young and old in gathering at the Cenotaph and War Memorial to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe.

The Union Jack bunting flew to the sound of musical entertainment from 1940s singer Stacy ‘Kitty’ Collins and the Wattisham Military Wives Choir, before speeches from the Town Hall steps and the lighting of a ceremonial beacon.

See how the Ipswich community marked this day – and if you were among the crowds, keep a look out to see if you can spot yourself joining in on this historic anniversary.

Looking ahead…

Events are also planned to commemorate Suffolk Armed Forces Day in Ipswich on 28 June 2025 and for Ipswich to once again join cities, towns and villages across the nation in celebrating VJ Day on 15 August.
