We've found our Cinderella!

Well done to Lucy Roper, who will play the title role of Cinderella in this year’s Ipswich Regent Theatre pantomime.

Lucy, a professionally trained performer with a First Class BA (Hons) in Performing Arts from the University of Winchester, was chosen from dozens of hopefuls at open auditions held on Sunday 28 September at the Ipswich Corn Exchange.

Already no stranger to the stage, Lucy has previously played Cinderella in a 2024 production at Gorleston theatre as well taking on roles such as Alice in Alice in Wonderland, Tinkerbell in Enchanted Pages, and Elsa in A Princess Tale. She brings a wealth of experience in pantomime, immersive theatre, and live entertainment, including recurring performances as a character entertainer and singer.

Auditionees were asked to perform scenes from the script and sing songs from the show in front of a panel of judges.

Councillor Jane Riley, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Culture and Customers, says:

“We’re thrilled to welcome Lucy to the cast of this year’s pantomime. The level of talent at the auditions was incredibly high, and Lucy’s performance truly stood out. It’s fantastic to see such a strong performer take on the role of Cinderella, we know audiences are in for a magical treat this Christmas.”

Lucy, who will play Cinderella at Ipswich Regent Theatre later this year, adds:

“I’m absolutely over the moon to be playing Cinderella! It’s a dream role and I can’t wait to bring some sparkle and magic to the stage at the Regent Theatre. Performing in pantomime is such a joy, and I’m so excited to be part of this year’s festive fun.”

As Cinderella, Lucy will join our cast including Mike McClean as Buttons, Francine Lewis as Fairy Godmother, Lee Brennan as Prince Charming, Noel Sullivan as Dandini, and Gavin Ashbarry and Peter Brad-leigh as the Ugly Sisters in a glittering production full of laughter, music, and festive cheer.

Of the audition, Producer for Enchanted, Guy Pascall, says:

“We had a brilliant day auditioning for Cinderella. The standard was incredibly high, but Lucy was simply enchanting. She has the perfect mix of charm, stage presence, and vocal talent. We’re delighted to have her leading our cast this Christmas.”

Performances of Cinderella run from Friday 12 December to Wednesday 31 December at the Ipswich Regent Theatre.
