Ipswich Borough Council is celebrating the importance of apprenticeships during National Apprenticeship Week 2026, taking place from 9 - 15 February 2026.
This annual event highlights the achievements of apprentices across the country and the vital contributions they make to businesses, communities, and the broader economy.
To mark the occasion, the Council is inviting anyone interested in apprenticeship opportunities to explore the options and find out more at upcoming events:
- 27 January – Suffolk Rural 10:00–12:00
- 28 January – Suffolk New College 11:00–13:00
- 11 February – University of Suffolk 16:00–18:00
Ipswich Borough Council has been offering apprenticeship opportunities for over 40 years, with 20 apprentices currently employed across a wide range of services, including Events, Housing, Human Resources, ICT, Maintenance and Contracts, Parks, Planning, Finance, Community Services, Sports, and Theatres.
Within such a large, diverse organisation as the Council, these apprentices are working in a wide range of roles from practical training as plumbers, electricians, carpenters and landscapers, to office-based roles in accounts, ICT services, business administration and event management.
Councillor Bryony Rudkin, Deputy Leader of Ipswich Borough Council and Portfolio Holder for Strategy and Transformation, said:
“We’re delighted to celebrate all of our apprentices during National Apprenticeship Week.
“There’s a misperception that apprenticeships are just for school leavers and young people, when actually apprenticeships are open to people of all ages, 16 and over, including college or university graduates, adults changing careers or returning to work after a break, and people already in work who want to upskill or add a new qualification.
“Apprenticeships provide a fantastic opportunity for individuals to build essential workplace skills while gaining valuable qualifications. It’s especially rewarding to see so many apprentices progress and build successful careers within the Council.”
