Ipswich Buses will introduce a series of service improvements across its network from Sunday 12 April, designed to deliver more reliable and punctual journeys for customers.
The changes focus on addressing the impact of increasing traffic congestion in key areas of Ipswich and beyond. A small number of targeted timetable adjustments and route revisions will help ensure buses run more consistently, particularly during peak periods.
To improve the punctuality of Service 1 (Ipswich Central to John Lewis), buses will no longer serve the stops on Sandyhill Lane and Roebuck Road, instead continuing on Landseer Road.
Two new bus stops will be installed on Landseer Road at the junction of Sandyhill Lane and buses will still turn into Holbrook Road to serve the Holbrook Road bus shelter. This means passengers who have previously used the stops on Sandyhill Lane and Roebuck Road are no more than 320 metres from a bus stop on journeys both into and out of the town centre.
Other timetable revisions to help reliability of services include:
- Service 2 will remain the same frequency, however there will be some revised timings on evening services to help it operate more reliably in the peak evening period.
- Services 7 to Henley Gate and 16 to Stoke Park will have some minor timetable adjustments, but the frequency of services will be unaffected.
- Service 92 between Ipswich and Manningtree will have two afternoon journeys leaving between 5 and 10 minutes later than they do currently.
- Services 93 and 93A between Ipswich and Colchester will operate via a revised route in Colchester, following ongoing congestion in parts of northern Colchester which has made it difficult for services to operate punctually. Service X93 is not affected by this change.
- Updates to Services 118/119 will simplify routes and improve consistency, alongside wider network enhancements and minor changes to selected school services.
Dan Bassett, Managing Director of Ipswich Buses, said: “These changes are all about improving reliability where it matters most to our customers. We know that congestion has made it increasingly challenging to keep services running on time in some areas, particularly during peak periods.
“By making targeted adjustments to timetables and routes, we are ensuring that passengers benefit from more consistent and dependable journeys; steps have been taken to maintain access for our customers and minimise inconvenience wherever possible.”
