Ipswich is set to benefit from a transformative decade of investment and community empowerment, following confirmation that the town has secured £20 million through the Government’s Pride in Place Programme. The national initiative is designed to help communities revitalise their local areas, build civic pride, and take an active role in shaping the future of their neighbourhoods.
This long-term funding places Ipswich among 169 UK areas receiving substantial support to strengthen communities, improve public spaces, and create opportunities for local people. The Pride in Place Programme is unique in that spending decisions are led directly by community groups, local organisations and social clubs, working in partnership with their councils - giving residents real influence over local priorities.
Ipswich has already seen strong engagement from residents and organisations. Earlier rounds of Pride in Place Impact Fund activity attracted significant interest, with the Council receiving £1.5 million for community projects, a clear indication of the ambition and energy within the town.
The new £20 million allocation will focus particularly on communities in and around Stoke Park, enabling residents to develop and deliver projects that matter most to them.
Councillor Neil MacDonald, Leader of Ipswich Borough Council says: “We are delighted that Ipswich has secured £20 million in funding from the Government's Pride in Place Programme. This investment, delivered over the next decade, will empower communities in and around Stoke Park to shape the future of their area.
“We will give people more of a say in how their local area is improved. Communities will gain real decision‑making power, with the opportunity to drive long-term change and build a legacy of community-led action and delivery that will last. This long-term investment will create stronger, more connected communities with better health & wellbeing for all. Improved opportunities for young people and adults can be identified and driven by the community itself.
“We want to make sure children have the best start in life and that adults can live the life they want to. Residents will benefit from greater influence, healthier environments, better local facilities, stronger community ties, and improved life opportunities. The programme is designed to enable communities to increase pride, empower people, and build long-term community resilience.
“We look forward to working closely with residents in the area to support them in developing and delivering their plan".
The Pride in Place Programme aligns with the wider ambitions of Ipswich Borough Council, local MPs, and community stakeholders who have consistently emphasised the importance of revitalising public spaces, improved community wellbeing, and strengthening local identity.
This, alongside the City of Culture longlisting, is a major milestone in Ipswich’s long-term regeneration journey, one that will be delivered by the community, with the community, and for the community.
