Ipswich Celebrates Another Major Win as Whitehouse Secures £20 Million Pride in Place Investment

Whitehouse

The good news just keeps on coming for Ipswich. The town has secured a second major award of £20 million through the Government’s Pride in Place Programme, this time focused on the Whitehouse area, bringing Ipswich’s total Pride in Place investment to £40 million.

The Government's announcement confirms 40 more neighbourhoods across the UK will receive up to £20 million each in long‑term funding, giving communities real power to improve their local areas.

The Pride in Place programme is designed to put residents at the heart of decision‑making. Local people, community groups and organisations work in partnership with Ipswich Borough Council to choose how investment is used, ensuring funding supports improvements that matter most to neighbourhoods.

Ipswich has already demonstrated exceptional community engagement. Earlier rounds saw £1.5 million awarded through the Impact Fund, followed by £20 million for Stoke Park, and now a further £20 million for Whitehouse, confirming Ipswich as one of the country’s strongest partners in community‑led regeneration.

The new funding will empower residents in Whitehouse, alongside those in Stoke Park, to shape a 10‑year vision for their area, strengthening local pride, improving community facilities, and supporting projects that enhance wellbeing. This mirrors the national approach, where neighbourhoods will lead locally shaped solutions rather than having priorities set centrally.

Councillor Neil MacDonald, Leader of Ipswich Borough Council, said: “We are thrilled to see Ipswich secure £40 million from the Government’s Pride in Place Programme. This long-term investment will give communities in Whitehouse and Stoke Park real power to shape their future.

“Residents will have greater influence, stronger local facilities, healthier environments and closer community ties. Opportunities for young people and adults will be identified and driven by the community itself.

“We look forward to working side by side with residents to deliver their plans and build a legacy of community‑led change.”

The Pride in Place expansion aligns strongly with Ipswich Borough Council’s ambitions to revitalise public spaces, improve health and wellbeing, and strengthen local identity. With the town also longlisted for City of Culture, this latest investment represents a major step forward in Ipswich’s long-term regeneration journey.
