Ipswich to host Premier League promotion parade

2024 promotion parade

Ipswich Borough Council will host a celebratory event on Bank Holiday Monday, 4 May, to mark Ipswich Town Football Club’s promotion to the Premier League, bringing together supporters, residents and visitors from across the town.

An open-top bus parade will depart from Portman Road Stadium at 11.30am, travelling through the town centre before finishing in Christchurch Park, where supporters will be able to gather for the finale of the celebrations.

Big screens will be installed in Christchurch Park, allowing supporters to watch the parade live before the players and club staff arrive. Once in the park, the manager and players will address fans directly from the open-top bus. The celebrations are expected to conclude at around 12:45 pm.

An Ipswich Borough Council spokesperson said: “We’re incredibly proud that Ipswich Town is back in the Premier League – it’s fantastic news for our town.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be hosting this event, to allow supporters to come together and celebrate this amazing achievement.

“It’s not only a huge moment for supporters, but it will bring real benefits to our local economy, attracting more visitors into the town centre and supporting local businesses.”

Mark Ashton, Ipswich Town Chairman said: “We would like to thank Ipswich Borough Council for hosting the celebration event and for their ongoing support of the club and its supporters. Promotion is a moment for the entire community, and we look forward to celebrating together on the parade and at Christchurch Park.”

Residents and visitors are advised that there will be temporary road closures and traffic disruption along the parade route. To support the safe delivery of the event, parking restrictions will apply throughout the bank holiday weekend. Further details on road closures, public transport changes and safety information will be found on the Ipswich Borough Council website
