Ipswich Market unveils vibrant new blue and white stalls

Market stall move

Shoppers and visitors to Ipswich town centre will today see market stalls in their new home on the northern side of the Cornhill, as Ipswich Borough Council delivers the move designed to support the market's future growth and enable the next phase of public realm improvements to Lloyds Avenue. The stalls have also been upgraded with a vibrant, traditional blue-and-white striped design, reflecting colours strongly associated with Ipswich and creating a fresh, distinctive look for the market.

Under the new arrangement, market stalls are now operating opposite their current location, with traders facing onto Westgate Street and Lloyds Avenue. The move creates opportunities to increase the number of stalls, and the Council hopes the relocation will help attract new traders while supporting the many established businesses that are already a well-loved part of Ipswich Market.

Hot food vendors based at Giles Circus will not be affected and will remain in their current location.

The relocation allows the Lloyds Avenue public realm redevelopment works to proceed, a scheme which will deliver wider footways, new planting and landscaping, and improvements beneath Lloyds Arch, creating a more attractive and accessible environment in the heart of the town centre.

The move supports key commitments within the Council's Corporate Strategy and Cornhill Strategy, including revitalising the town centre, delivering the £25 million Towns Fund programme, improving the public realm, and creating a market environment that complements the surrounding retail and leisure offer.
