Sex Establishments

Ipswich Borough Council has adopted amendments made to Schedule 3 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982, and all forms of sex establishment will now require a licence with the Council.

Skip licences

Skip companies must apply to Suffolk County Council for a licence to put a skip on a public road, pavement or verge.

Building control licences and permits

Some areas of work are controlled and therefore require licences or permits

Skin piercing and tattoos

Certain, specified, skin piercing activities are required to be registered by the Council. These activities are: Acupuncture (including dry needling); Cosmetic piercing; Electrolysis; Tattooing; and Semi-permanent skin colouring (make-up). The latter includes the insertion of any pigment into the skin so would include treatments such as BB Glow which is microneedling with the insertion of pigment. (Microneedling by itself is not registerable).

Industrial licences and permits

Licensing for industrial purposes, including motor vehicle salvage, scrap metal yards and cooling towers.

Mobile / park home licence

If you use land as a caravan/mobile/park home site you will almost always need planning permission and a site licence from the Council.

Apply for a HMO licence

Mandatory HMO licensing applies across England to all houses that are occupied by five or more persons forming more than one household.

Licences for Pleasure Boats and Boatmen

The Council operates its own pleasure boat and boatman licensing scheme for pleasure boats operating in the River Orwell, where the Normal Point of Departure (NDP) is within the borough of Ipswich.
