What is Pride in Place?

Pride in Place is a long-term UK Government programme that puts local people in charge of improving their neighbourhoods

Each Pride in Place area can receive up to £20 million over 10 years to invest in the things that matter most to local residents — like public spaces, community buildings, high streets, safety, services and local activities.

Ipswich is proud to have two Pride in Place areas, each with £20million investments to make:

  • Stoke Park and Chantry [LINK
  • Whitehouse [LINK

How does it work?

At the heart of Pride in Place is a Neighbourhood Board, made up mostly of local residents, along with community groups, businesses, councillors and the local MP. The board listens to residents and works with them to decide:

  • What the priorities for the area should be
  • How the funding should be spent
  • How plans are delivered over time

This means decisions are led by the community, not imposed from outside.

What kind of things can it fund?

Pride in Place funding can support projects such as:

  • Improving parks, green spaces and play areas
  • Revitalising high streets and empty buildings
  • Supporting community centres, youth activities and local groups
  • Making neighbourhoods safer and more welcoming
  • Helping people feel proud of where they live

The focus is on long-term improvements that reflect what residents say they need.

How can residents get involved?

Residents can get involved by:

  • Sharing ideas and feedback
  • Taking part in events and consultations
  • Applying to join the Neighbourhood Board or its working groups

Pride in Place works best when lots of voices are heard, and local people help shape the future of their area.
