Hazardous waste includes the following items:

• DIY products e.g. varnishes, paint stripper and some wood treatments.
• Flammable liquids e.g. white spirit, paraffin and wood dyes.
• Garden chemicals/pesticides e.g. weed killers and insect killers.
• Poisons e.g. rat and mouse poisons
• Household cleaning products and chemicals e.g. toilet cleaners, drain cleaners and bleach.
• Motoring products e.g. antifreeze and brake/clutch fluid.

Disposing of paint

If you have less than five nearly empty tins of paint they can be disposed of in your black bin as long as the following action has been taken:

• If the paint is emulsion, you must add some sand to the tin until the paint has been soaked up.
• If the paint is gloss, it needs to be left out until the paint has gone hard.

Once this has been done you can place the tins into bags in your black bin.

Paint cannot be disposed of at any of the Household Waste Recycling Centres in Ipswich.

Asbestos waste

Please note that if asbestos needs to be removed from a dismantled shed, garage or outhouse, regulations identify this as construction waste, so please contact a registered asbestos contractor for quotes to undertaken safe removal.
