Disability Reduction

If you qualify for the Disability Reduction, you will be charged Council Tax in the Valuation Band below the one that your home is actually in.

This means that if your property is in Band C, then with the Disability Reduction you will be charged Council Tax at Band B. For Band A properties your Council Tax will be reduced by one sixth.

Qualifying for Disability Reduction

To qualify for the Disability Reduction, you must meet the following conditions:

  • A permanently disabled person must live in the home. This can be an adult or a child.
  • The property must have:
    • A wheelchair used indoors, or
    • An extra bathroom or kitchen specially adapted for the disabled person, or
    • A room used to meet the needs of the person with a disability, such as a room for dialysis.
