Ipswich residents are being urged to stop littering by local children as part of Ipswich Borough Council’s ‘This is Our Town’ campaign.
The Council invited local children living in the town to design eye-catching, impactful posters as part of a competition to help tackle littering and encourage pride in the town.
Artwork submitted to the competition is being displayed on hoarding panels at play areas, with bins also being wrapped around the town centre featuring the three winning designs to promote the campaign.
Held during June, the competition received over 100 entries – 139 in total - with submissions from local schools as well as individual children.
The three winning designs by Lilah age 7 from Springfield Junior School, Henley age 10 and Nova age 8 from The Oaks Primary School were chosen by Councillor Phil Smart, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Environment and Transport. Each winner will receive a family swim voucher to enjoy at Crown Pools.
Councillor Phil Smart, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Environment and Transport said:
“I was amazed to see so many fantastic and colourful entries coming in from children of all ages living in Ipswich, who clearly feel very passionately about the issue of littering.
“I’d like to thank every young person, along with their schools and caregivers, who took the time to enter the competition. By taking part they are helping to share our important message that this is our town, and we don’t we don’t want to see littering in Ipswich.”
“Every day our waste team collects 1.9 tonnes of litter which is a staggering amount. We hope that this campaign will encourage everyone within our community to think before littering as well as giving them a real sense of ownership and pride in Ipswich.”
