Ipswich Borough Council is pleased to announce the acquisition of Giles Place, securing a significant opportunity to deliver high-quality, well-located accommodation for older residents in the Borough.
The acquisition forms a key part of the Council’s continued commitment to providing accessible, affordable, and well-designed housing that enables people to live independently, while remaining connected to their local community.
Giles Place will provide 69 one-bedroom and studio apartments designed specifically for older residents. The accommodation will offer modern, safe, and energy-efficient living spaces, alongside features tailored to support comfort, and independence.
Located in a well-established part of Ipswich, Giles Place offers exceptional access to:
- Local GP surgeries, pharmacies, and healthcare services.
- Shops, community facilities, and green spaces.
- Frequent public transport links connecting residents to the town centre and wider area.
The project will deliver much-needed housing tailored specifically to the growing number of older residents in Ipswich. It will help to:
- Reduce pressure on existing housing stock.
- Provide affordable alternatives to unsuitable or under-occupied homes.
- Support residents to live independently for longer.
Cllr Alasdair Ross, Portfolio Holder for Housing at Ipswich Borough Council, said: “The acquisition of Giles Place is a major step forward in our ambition to provide high-quality homes that meet the needs of our older residents.
This development will not only deliver modern, accessible accommodation but will also ensure residents can remain close to the services, communities, and transport links that matter most to them.”
Homes will be offered at affordable rents, ensuring accessibility for local people while maintaining high design and environmental standards.
This acquisition highlights Ipswich Borough Council’s proactive approach to addressing housing need and enhancing quality of life for residents at every stage.
