About Orwell Country Park

Overview

Orwell Country Park, spanning 300 acres, is a diverse natural haven bordered by the Orwell Estuary and the A14. Officially opened in 1995, the park showcases a variety of lowland habitats, including ancient woodlands, heathlands, and mudflats. It offers visitors a range of scenic walks and wildlife encounters across its four main sites:

The park is situated within the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape (formerly an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and is recognized for its significant wildlife and habitats through several important designations:

  • County Wildlife Site

Wildlife 

Orwell Country Park is home to a rich variety of species, some of which are notable both locally and internationally. Bird species of interest include:

  • Skylarks
  • Peregrine Falcons
  • Black-tailed Godwits
  • Golden Plovers
