All voters must show photographic identification in polling stations before being issued with a ballot paper.
Photographic ID Checklist
In order to vote in a polling station you must show one of the following:
International travel documents:
- A United Kingdom passport
- A passport issued by any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or a Commonwealth country
- A passport issued by an EEA state
Driving and parking documents:
- A United Kingdom driving licence
- A driving licence issued by any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or an EEA state
- A provisional driving licence
- A Blue Badge
Local travel documents:
- Older Person’s Bus Pass
- Disabled Person’s Bus Pass
- Oyster 60+ Card
- Freedom Pass
- Scottish National Entitlement Card issued in Scotland
- 60 and Over Welsh Concessionary Travel Card
- Disabled Person’s Welsh Concessionary Travel Card issued in Wales
- Senior SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- Registered Blind SmartPass or Blind Person’s
- SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- A War Disablement SmartPass or War Disabled
- SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- 60+ SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
- Half Fare SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
Proof of age documents:
- An identity card bearing the Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (a PASS card e.g. CitizenCard, NUS Totum ID Card, Validate UK Card)
Other government issued documents:
- A national identity card issued by an EEA state
- A biometric immigration document issued in accordance with regulations under section 5 of the UK Borders Act 2007
- A digital eVisa
- A Ministry of Defence Form 90 (Defence Identity Card Mod90)
- A Ministry of Defence Form 100 (HM Armed Forces Veteran Card)
- A digital Veteran Card
Documents issued by Electoral Services:
- A Voter Authority Certificate*
- A temporary Voter Authority Certificate
- Anonymous elector’s document**
If your photographic identification document has expired it will still be accepted so long as the photograph is still a good likeness of you.
You may be required to provide further proof of identity if there is any discrepancy between your name as shown on your form of photographic identification and the name of the elector that you claim to be.
*If you do not have one of the above you must have applied for a Voter Authority Certificate by 5pm on the sixth working day before election day.
