Allotments are a great way to grow your own produce, get outside, be amongst nature and meet like minded people! Growing your own fruit and veg is not only great for the environment but is also incredibly rewarding and it's a great activity for all ages!
Allotment sites in Ipswich
There are over 2,000 allotment plots at 16 sites across Ipswich, covering an area of 60 hectares. Most sites have:
- A security fence;
- Lockable gates;
- Roadways;
- Adequate water supply;
- Communal shed (Ipswich Allotment Society).
Some fields also have car parking facilities and compost toilet facilities.
Customer Portal
The Allotment Customer Portal can be used to:
- Apply for an allotment/join an allotment waiting list
- Pay for your allotment plot
- Cancel an allotment plot
- Send an allotment enquiry
- Change your contact details (change of address, email address, name, etc.)

Please be aware you will need to provide an active email address in order to access the allotment customer portal. When registering for an account, alongside providing an email address, please also provide a postal address and phone number so the team can contact you regarding your allotment plot.
Please also be aware our customer portal now requires multi-factor authentication to access your account. This means you will receive a code each time you log in as a secondary security feature to access your account. This code can be sent via email, phone call, or SMS text message. Please ensure you provide accurate contact details to ensure you receive this code.

Allotment rents
1 October 2024 - 31 March 2026
- Full price: £6.05 per rod
- Concessions: £5.57 per rod
For example, a full size 10 rod plot (roughly 250m²) will be £60.50 or £55.70 for a concession.
Smaller plots are available, and the rent is reduced accordingly.
Concessionary prices are available for older people and disadvantaged groups.
1 April 2026 - 31 March 2027
- Full price: £6.66 per rod
- Concessions: £6.13 per rod
For example, a full size 10 rod plot (roughly 250m²) will be £66.60 or £61.30 for a concession.
Smaller plots are available, and the rent is reduced accordingly.
Concessionary prices are available for older people and disadvantaged groups.
1 April 2027 - 31 March 2028
- Full price: £7.46 per rod
- Concessions: £6.79 per rod
For example, a full size 10 rod plot (roughly 250m²) will be £74.60 or £67.90 for a concession.
Smaller plots are available, and the rent is reduced accordingly.
Concessionary prices are available for older people and disadvantaged groups.

Ipswich Allotment Society (IAS)
Ipswich Allotment Society is responsible for the letting of plots on behalf of the Council.
The Society works very closely with Council officers to represent the views of its members, enabling problems to be identified and improvements to be implemented as efficiently as possible.
Membership is available to both tenants and people who also work regularly on their plots (associates). This costs just a few pounds a year and includes:
- Public Liability Insurance (required as per Allotment Rule No. 5) which covers you against most claims for incidents that happen on your plot or as a result of something you do on the field or attending any IAS organised event
- Free advice & support in connection with all horticulture and gardening
- Access to regular updates, information and advice on the IAS website
- Access to field sheds & shops where provided
- Access to IAS events
- The opportunity to vote at the IAS Annual General Meeting (AGM), and to stand for positions
- Participation in the annual IAS awards ceremony and to attend the presentation evening
Membership must be renewed annually in April each year.

ActivLives runs the People's Community Garden at Maidenhall allotment. This Garden is a resource for all the community, and everyone is welcome to get involved.
