Bulky household waste

You are here

If you are looking to dispose of unwanted bulky household items such as furniture, mattresses or carpets, we provide a paid-for collection service for Ipswich residents.

This service is not available to businesses or landlords.

We offer four collections:

  • 1 item - £25
  • 2 to 5 items - £50.73
  • 6 to 10 items - £101.48
  • 11 to 15 items - £152.21

If you are in receipt of Council Tax Reduction, you may be entitled to one free collection per year (April – March).

Before booking a collection

Before you ask us to collect any unwanted bulky items, why not consider donating them to an organisation where they can be re-used by someone in need?

Donate to charity

It’s quick and easy to pass on your unwanted items to charity organisations in Ipswich and some even offer free collections. Here are a few examples:

Offer your unwanted items on a re-use website

Freegle is an online platform that helps people give and get items for free in their community. It’s free to join and there is an Ipswich Recycle site.

The Suffolk Recycling website has advice about re-using your waste at: Re-use your waste - Suffolk Recycling

Use a Recycling Centre

You can donate items at all of Suffolk’s recycling centres, including the one at Portman’s Walk, using the orange re-use containers.

All re-use items are sold in the re-use shops at Foxhall and Bury St Edmunds Recycling Centres. Find out what you can and cannot donate.

Arrange a collection

To arrange a collection, please complete our online form.

You will need to provide a full list of the items you want collected and only the items you list will be taken. If you need to change an item on the list, you must contact us in advance.

If you’re looking to get rid of garden waste, we provide a separate service for this. Visit our bulky garden waste collection page.

On collection day

The items you are having collected must be placed on the edge of your property, nearest to the road, by 6:00am on your allocated collection day.

If you live in a flat, the items must be left on the ground floor, outside the building, where the collection team can easily identify them.

Collections take place after payment is made. You will be given a collection date when you make a booking but you can view the collection day for your area online.
