Adapting your home

You are here

We can help with installing aids and facilities in council homes for people with disabilities, although our budget for this is limited.

The types of work we can do include:

  • Over bath showers
  • Ramps
  • Flat floor showers
  • Hand rails
  • Grab rails.

Requests should be made through Customer First, which is the initial point of contact for social services in Suffolk. Phone them on 0808 800 4005 and ask for an Occupational Therapist to assess the needs of the individual concerned. Occasionally we hold case conferences with representatives from Social Services to discuss moving the individual to an adapted property.

While the work is being carried out, Social Services is responsible for providing 'moveable' aids such as electric hoists, internal grab rails and free standing shower chairs.

In some circumstances, we will work jointly with Social Services to provide adaptations.

Disabled facilities grants

Grants are available for disabled adaptations to help you live more comfortably in your own home. Find out more on the Disabled facilities grants page.
