Ipswich Borough Council will be planting 1,250 trees across the town this week, to mark Ipswich Loves Trees Week (14 – 20 February 2026), an annual celebration to honour and appreciate the trees of Ipswich.
The Council’s parks team will be in Bridge Wood and Pond Hall Farm, which sit in Orwell Country Park, planting a variety of native trees, including willow, buckthorn, hazel, hawthorn, alder and many more, with the aim of helping our environment.
Councillor Lucy Trenchard, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Parks and Climate Change planted a Liquidambar Tree to mark the beginning of the week in Whitehouse Park and said: “This annual week of celebration is special to realise the beauty and importance of the trees around us. In the last year (January 2025 – January 2026), the team planted 4,757 trees across the town, which is vital in enhancing the environment we live in.
“Ipswich Borough Council launched a two for one tree policy in 2010, which means that for every one tree we fell, two trees are planted, making a big difference to our community.
“A big thank you goes to our tree wardens, residents and volunteers who have worked hard in helping to plant the thousands of trees this year.”
This week comes after it was announced that Greening work has started within the town centre.
The project, which is funded by the Towns Fund, will broaden biodiversity and green areas within the town centre through planting in Princes St, Queen St, St Nicholas St and at Wolsey Square. More information about this project can be found online.
