On-the-go recycling

As part of our ongoing efforts to make recycling even easier for residents and visitors alike in Ipswich town, we can proudly announce the installation of eight new dual recycling bins.

New dual recycling bins in Ipswich Town

These eye-catching bins are designed to encourage the recycling of plastic bottles and cans, effectively separating recyclable waste from general waste. The vibrant bins are located in key areas across Tavern Street, Westgate Street, and Carr Street, with the simple goal of capturing the most commonly recyclable items that often end up in general waste.

National campaign and funding

The funding for these bins was secured through a national campaign led by the environmental charity Hubbub and funded by McDonald’s. The #InTheLoop grant fund was launched to help local authorities and organizations improve on-the-go recycling. This campaign specifically targets the collection of recyclable items frequently disposed of on our high streets.

So far, across all #InTheLoop pilot projects, Hubbub reports that over 500 bins have been installed, capturing 2.5 million bottles (and counting!), all of which have been recycled.
