Suffolk Building Control has also produced a Guide to Sustainability which looks at some of the key issues and explores the options that we have available to us to reduce the impact that our buildings have on the environment around us.
You can download the Building Control Guide to Sustainability (PDF) for more detailed information.
Important considerations for Building Work
If you are planning to carry out work on your home or a building that you own, there are a number of different areas to consider before you begin, such as:
- Obtaining professional advice before you begin work;
- Any Health and Safety requirements that you may need to comply with;
- Making sure that the workmen you use are part of the Competent Persons Scheme;
- The requirements when installing replacement windows;
- The requirements if you are building over or near to any sewers;
- How your work may be affected by the Party Wall etc. Act 1996;
- Whether you require an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC);
- The requirements if you are installing Solid Wall Insulation (PDF).
