Discounts, exemptions and empty properties

Find out if your property is exempt from Council Tax, if you qualify for a discount or if you are due to pay a premium.

From 1st April 2019 if you are under 25 years of age and have previously been in the care of Suffolk County Council (‘looked after’), we may be able to reduce the amount of council tax you have to pay by awarding a discretionary council tax discount from 1st April 2019.

If you meet certain conditions your Council Tax may be charged at a lower Valuation Band than the one that your home is actually in.
Some homes are exempt from Council Tax, may qualify for a discount or are due to pay a premium.
The Council Tax bill assumes there are at least two adults living in the property. If there is only one adult occupying the property as their main home, there is a 25% reduction.
A discount of 10% is available for up to 12 months, if a property is unoccupied, substantially unfurnished; and requires or is undergoing major repairs (including structural alteration) to make it suitable to live in.
