Local List 2025 – Invitation for Nominations.

The Council conducted a six week public consultation on possible additions and amendments to, and removals from the Local List (Buildings of Townscape Interest) SPD, between 23 January 2025 and 6 March 2025.

A Selection Guide for Nominations

The public can nominate any building they consider appropriate for inclusion in the Local List. When the consultation period has closed the Council will invite a panel of experts, including local amenity society representatives, to draw up a shortlist of recommendations for inclusion in the draft Local List 2025.

The Panel will use the following criteria to assess nominations (not an exhaustive list):

• Is the building the work of a particular architect of regional or local note?

• Does the building have landmark quality, or contribute to the character of its setting?

• Does it contribute to the character or appearance of an area?

• Does it provide a good example of a particular type of building, which is locally rare?

• Has it significant historic associations with local people or past events?

• Does it provide evidence of the gradual development of the settlement in which it stands?

• If within a landscape such as a park or garden, is it of identifiable importance to the historic design?

• Has it received an award in recognition of the quality of its design or other significance?

Historic England produce a guide to the creation of Local Lists, which the Council are using as best practice guidance. Read the document.
