This year Ipswich Borough Council will be celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2023 (6 to 12 February) with an event to promote the benefits of an Apprenticeship in local government at Ipswich Town Hall. On average Ipswich Borough Council employs around twenty apprentices each year and has been supporting apprenticeships for forty years.

More than 500 trees are to be planted in Ipswich as part of a national forest in 2023 in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The 590 trees donated to Ipswich will become part of the living legacy to honour Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth through The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC), which has already planted over a million trees across the country.

Until 17 March 2023, visitors to Christchurch Mansion will be able to see a colourful display of clothing and other items created by the Suffolk Refugee Support sewing group. The sewing group have created amazing things using donated fabrics, wool, thread and sewing machine, transforming these into items into a collection of dresses, hats, toys, and other items on display, with information alongside about what inspired the creation.

Figures from Podback, the coffee pod recycling service, show that Ipswich residents care about recycling (and love coffee!) Since the scheme launched in January 2022, 4,336 households in Ipswich have signed up to recycle their used plastic and aluminium coffee pods, recycling around two million pods so far.

The Government has announced that it will not be supporting Ipswich Borough Council’s Levelling Up bid. The £18 million funding was needed to support the development of the Council’s ‘Get Ipswich Active’ ambitions, funding which would have helped boost the economic recovery of Ipswich.
