Bananarama at the Regent: Now that’s really saying something!

Published24th April 2017

Robert De Niro’s waiting and so is the rest of Suffolk as tickets go on sale this week for the legendary Bananarama, who are coming to the Ipswich Regent as part of a new tour.

It’s the first time the all-girl group’s original line-up has ever been on tour.

Keren, Sara and Siobhan shot to fame in 1982 with “It Ain’t What You Do” (in company with Fun Boy Three), following it up with  “Really Saying Something” and then on their own with “Cruel Summer” in 1983 and “Robert de Niro’s Waiting” in 1984.

Their success made them the girl band with the most chart entries ever, with 28 singles in the top 50 between 1982 and 2009. They had sold 40 million records by 2002 and the music just keeps on coming.

Siobhan left the group in 1988 and was replaced by Jacquie O’Sullivan. Keren and Sara carried on as a Bananarama duo but now Siobhan is back and the original line-up is together again to wow the Regent on 1st December – the first time the three have ever been on tour.

“We’ll be performing all the hits and some surprises, too, I really can’t wait it’s gonna be an amazing party every night!" said Keren.

The theatre’s Mark Whiting added: “This is going to be a brilliant concert … Bananarama had hit after hit in the 1980s. I think tickets are going to fly for this one so my advice is don’t miss out and get yours early."

Tickets go on pre-sale to Regent subscribers tomorrow (Tuesday) at 10am and then on general sale on Wednesday 26th April, also at 10am. You can sign up for the Regent sale alerts at www.ipswichregent.com and click “Register” on the home page.
