Crown Pools and Fore Street rated ‘very good’

Ipswich Borough Council’s two Swimming Pools have been rated ‘very good’ by Right Directions on behalf of Sport England and the Activity Alliance.

The assessment considered how accessible and inclusive the pools are for people from all ability and social groups. It also considered that the Council’s plans for the pools were ‘excellent’, with assessors praising the Council’s Health and Wellbeing programmes.

As a result of the assessment, Crown Pools and Fore Street Swimming Pool have achieved the Tackling Inequalities in Leisure Standard.

Councillor Bryony Rudkin, Ipswich Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Communities and Sport, said:

“Well done to everyone involved in our swimming pool services for their excellent efforts to achieve this award. There were strict criteria to meet around accessibility into and around the buildings, strong evidence that operating procedures and safety are of the highest level, and a lot of attention paid to the strategic direction of the service and programming. It was therefore important that Ipswich Borough Council demonstrated efforts to actively engage with disadvantaged groups and disabled visitors, particularly those that find physical activity more difficult to achieve.”
