Down come the silos

A huge grabber is making its mark as demolition work gets under way at the former beet sugar factory on the edge of Ipswich.

It is another key milestone in the development of the Sproughton Enterprise Park by the Borough Council.

The 130-acre site is in neighbouring Babergh, whose planning committee will decide the outline planning application and another detailed plan for the first roads on the site.

Ipswich Borough Council Leader David Ellesmere said: “It is good to see this demolition starting so everyone can see what is happening.”

The four silos will all be down by February, with much of the concrete used in the construction of roads on the business park.
