Historic barge weighs anchor for new season

Published24th April 2014

The Ipswich-based historic sailing barge Victor is recommencing her regular river cruises for the summer.

From May to the end of September, Victor will be running her popular cream tea cruises every Wednesday and Sunday afternoon. In addition, every Friday evening she will be running her evening supper cruises.

Built in Ipswich in 1895 and berthed by the Old Custom House, Victor is one of the last barges built in the town still working the local rivers. A piece of local floating history, she is on the National Maritime Historic Ships Register.

Originally she carried cargo on the East Coast estuaries and now, refurbished with modern facilities – including a licensed bar - provides a unique experience for local people and tourists cruising on the River Orwell.
