Love is in the air at Ipswich Market

Roses are red, Violets are blue, We love our market, And so should you!

With those words, Ipswich Borough Council today launched the next stage of its Love Your Local Market Campaign in time for Valentine’s Day.

Ipswich Market stallholders moved to a new site around the corner from the Cornhill as work got under way to transform the town’s main square. With a new location came a new look – smart gazebos fill Princes Street, Giles Circus and Queen Street.

The Council has already begun a social media campaign to urge local people and visitors to go the market.

Slogans extolling some of the different stalls highlight the wide range of goods on offer, from “Make a visit to Coxy’s one of your five a day” to “The market is blossoming in a new patch”. These will be followed this week with promotions about other bargains … gifts, bags and, of course, a mention for Young’s fish stall with “Your plaice or Mike’s”.

“We want everyone to get behind the market. It’s a big part of Ipswich town centre’s offer and we want to make sure not only that existing customers follow the stallholders to their new location, but also to attract people who have not been there before,” said a Council spokesman.

“Tomorrow people can get down there and pick up some great gifts and produce for a loved one on Valentine’s Day…or even pamper themselves with a lovely cuppa or snack from the Food Court section on Queen Street. Love is definitely  in the air at Ipswich Market!”

Ipswich will also be taking part in the Love Your Local Market national campaign in the spring and will be rolling out a loyalty scheme in the coming weeks.
