Many free festive fit activities for young people this Christmas holiday

Published16th December 2022

A festive activity programme is now available to book to help keep youngsters active this Christmas, with Ipswich Fit.

Between 19 and 30 December 2022 at Ipswich Sports facilities, families can enjoy sports activities together at roller parties or family swim sessions, with bouncy play sessions for toddlers and ‘give it a go’ sessions for juniors to try trampolining, basketball, casual kickabouts and racquet sports.

There will also be the return of multi-sport holiday camps, with inclusive activities for all abilities plus dance parties with festive music in celebration of the season. Thanks to the Holiday, Activity and Food (HAF) Fund at least 250 places are available for eligible children aged five to 16. Children must be in receipt of free school meals to be eligible for these free places, with each camp offering a nutritious meal as part of the day for every child taking part.

The disability and inclusive friendly holiday camp is specifically for young people that may need additional support. These camps have been designed with our partners, Indigo Opportunities, to support children with additional needs in a community sport setting.

Running in partnership with the Ipswich School of Dancing, Festive Dance Parties provide all the sparkle and shine of the ballroom, with the Christmas party spirit for an uplifting celebration.

Free places on our camp programmes are available to families who live in Ipswich and are in receipt of benefits-related free school meals, in receipt of Universal Credit or experiencing financial difficulties.

Councillor Bryony Rudkin, Ipswich Borough Council portfolio holder for Communities and Sport, says:

“These holiday camps offer children a range of activities that they may not usually experience such as battlezone archery, frisbee golf and mindfulness sessions. At a time of year when it is difficult to get out and enjoy outdoor activities, our sports centres and swimming pools offer fun sessions for all to enjoy. With at least 250 free places available and meals provided, this is a great opportunity for children who usually enjoy free school meals to keep active this Christmas.”

Bookings are now open and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents with children that meet the eligibility criteria should apply for a HAF iCards and then book online using the card to secure a place.

Bookings open seven days prior to activities taking place on a first come first served basis, with activities starting on Monday 19 December.
