New life-saver in park

The equipment is designed for use by members of the public if they witness a cardiac arrest. The box, which is located on the eastern side of the Stable Block as you enter the park via Cliff Lane, is accessed by phoning 999, stating the box number and postcode -  IP3 0PG, which is written on the box - and the emergency services will give the caller the box code to gain access.

The defibrillator has been purchased through the Holywells Park Heritage Lottery Project.

There are no warning signs for sudden cardiac arrest, just the realisation that when it happens to someone, treatment is required as fast as possible to provide the victim with the greatest chance of survival. Current emergency response times for a cardiac event are approximately eight to 11 minutes. Without treatment, a cardiac arrest victim’s chances of survival decrease by 10% per minute.
